from a S***** to another S*****

The following is from 'Peace with God' by Billy Graham (1953 and 1984):

"Perhaps you at one time thought you knew the joy and peace of being born into God's family. You experienced the sweet fellowship of God's people. You tasted the satisfaction of Christ's presence with you, but you sinned. You went out from the presence of Christ, and you have found that it is night.

Now, you neither experience the fellowship of Christians nor the fellowship of sinners. and certainly you no longer experience the fellowship of Christ.
Perhaps there is no loneliness so bitter as the loneliness of a backslidden Christian.

Yet there is forgiveness for you. As you confess and forsake your sins, your fellowship with Christ will be restored.
'If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness' (1John 1:9).

Perhaps you say you are having a pretty good time sinning -- and you well may. The Bible says there is a certain pleasure in sin.
However, it is short lived and fatal. Would one single person among us ever pass up a piece of ripe delicious fruit to select a rotten piece that was crawling with worms and reeking with decay, if we were not driven to that choice by sinister powers of evil? Yet that is exactly what we do over and over again. We constantly pass up the rich and beautiful and ennobling experiences and seek out the tawdry, the cheap, and the degrading.

There are thousands of lonely people in the city and in the country, who carry heavy burdens of grief, anxiety, pain and disappointment; but the loneliest soul of all is the man whose life is steeped in sin.

Christ can give you power to overcome every sin and habit in your life and bring you a place of deeper joy than you ever hoped or imagined. Jesus Christ can break the ropes, fetters and chains of sin, but you must repent, confess, commit and surrender yourself to Him first. Right now, it can be settled, and you can know the peace, joy and fellowship of Christ. "

Post-script:
Even as I am typing this, I am feeling somewhat hypocritical ... or inadequate.
...
I guess, sometimes Christians who try to share gospel feel that way (even though God does not want us to feel that way).

Some people think that Christians feel pompous and self-righteous when they presume to share the gospel with others (I know because I used to be one of those who think this way of Christians before :) ), but that is not true.

In fact, many Christians hesitate to share the gospel because we are afraid that our own lives will not bear up under the scrutiny of the gospel.

Because, even today, I have done things that I am not proud of. If anyone needs to repent of sin, it is me. Repentance means turning away from sin, walking away from it 180 degrees, but why do we keep falling back into the same patterns we have turned away from?

But then, I have hope.

I know that it is not because I don't sin that I have the right to share the gospel; but rather, it is because I am a sinner that I understand sinners . ( If truth be told, I will
never be able to earn the right to share the gospel. But God has given me the right because He is my righteousness.)

So I presume to share the gospel. Here and elsewhere. It doesn't mean that I disregard my own propensity for sin ... or try to pretend that I'm perfect ........ or feel proud that I am a sinner .... I have to work on those points . I can't just ignore them or sweep them under the carpet. The bible says that we must not take God's grace/forgiveness as a licence for immorality.

But that's not going to stop me from sharing the gospel .

And I hope it won't stop you from sharing the gospel either. You don't have it all together -- and it's okay.

Christians are imperfect too. The difference is that we believe that we are forgiven sinners -- not by our own works or because of what we have done, but despite what we have done wrong. That God still loves me and calls me His own despite what I have done -- despite what I have done wrong even after conversion -- just blows my mind away.

I have the same sentiments too...
"...Many Christians in fact hesitate to share the gospel because we are afraid that our own lives will not bear up under the scrutiny of the gospel..."
Sometimes we are conscious of how people see us.This is even more so when we share the gospel carrying God's name because people see God thru Christian's example.

It is not easy to walk the talk but we can learn with God's grace and mercy everyday :)

Fortunately, when we preach the gospel, we do not preach our sinful selves, but Christ crucified and it is he (not us) who is the power of God and the wisdom of God for the salvation of those who trust in him (1 Corinthians 1:24).

"...consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. He is the source of your life in Christ Jesus, whom God made our wisdom and our righteousness and sanctification and redemption. Therefore, as it is written, "Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord."" (1 Corinthians 1:26-31)

yeeping: thanks for sharing your heartfelt thoughts. I am encouraged by your post. Do keep your comments and feedback coming :)

shadow: thanks for sharing :) I agree. Indeed, "knowledge puffs up", as the bible tells us. Pride in our intellectual selves or ability is a major stumbling block, including for even many Christians. God gives and God can take away. He alone is the source of all knowledge and our righteousness.
